PSSJD is a private non-profit institution that includes a general hospital and a large network of mental health services which provides comprehensive mental health and disability services, including neurodegenerative diseases. Its served area approximately includes one million people. It also focuses on bringing together basic research scientists and research clinicians in the areas of public health, mental disorders and disability. It includes geriatrics long-term care institutions and has one of the nodes of the national brain banks, specifically devoted to psychiatric disorders. The institution also develops new health care services, as home care for persons with severe disability or telemedicine.

It is a University Hospital linked with the University of Barcelona and provides pre and post-graduate education in health sciences.

The Teaching, Research and Innovation Unit of PSSJD is organized in 3 research groups:

1. Etiopathogenesis and treatment of severe mental disorders;
2. Impact, risk and prevention of mental disorders and Research on healthcare technologies and results in primary healthcare and mental health.
3. Multidisciplinary, the cautious observation of ethical principles and the harmonization of research and health care delivery are three of the characteristic traits of the investigation at PSSJD.

TEAM MEMBERS

Dr. Josep Maria Haro (jmharo@pssjd.org), Psychiatrist and PhD in public health, research and teaching director and associate professor of medicine. Expertise in epidemiology of mental disorders and in particular schizophrenia. He has conducted studies on the prevalence and impact of disorders in the general population and the treatment of mental disorders in primary care. Focus on the impact of physical and mental disorders and the effect of societal and environmental aspects.

Amalia Muñoz (a.munoz@pssjd.org) M.Sc., with master degree in Clinical Psychology and Psychologist. Pre-doctoral researcher in cognitive impairment, cognitive rehabilitation and mental health. Experience on evaluation of neurological patients and the impact of their functional impairment conditions.

Beatriz Olaya PhD, M.Sc., with master degree in methodology and statistics in Health Sciences and a PhD in Psychology, having worked as a post-doctoral researcher and having been involved in several national and international projects about ageing and health. Her area of interest is the epidemiology of mental health.

María Victoria Moneta BSc Statistician. Master degree in Statistics and Operations Research from the Polytechnic University of Catalonia. He/she has been working for >6 years as statistical analyst and has been involved in several national and international projects about mental health. Area of interest is the analysis of clinical and epidemiological studies.
